"I just wanted to thank you for a great week of camp for Brian and Matthew! They had a blast and are still talking about it and want to go again next year. We went to the Vineyard yesterday and they showed us the pier they were fishing off of and they continue to tell stories of the scup they caught on the deep sea trip. Boys even tried the scup for dinner. Enjoy the rest of summer and hopefully we'll see you again next summer!"

Ages 8 to 10 - Fishing
Flounder Program (Ages 8-10)
Our "Flounder" program, geared for children ages 8 through 10, teaches kids the basics of fishing and familiarizes them with the marine environment. During each day of our program, children will fish from different locations in our local community. One day of shore fishing, one day of sportfishing, and two days of "deep sea" bottom fishing are included. Targeted species include scup (porgy), black sea bass, fluke, and bluefish!
We integrate a fun, educational component to the program and introduce the children to a variety of marine species such as live squid, horseshoe crabs, lobster, clams, and other fun and interesting creatures! On select days of our program, children may bring home their day's catch, cleaned and filleted for dinner.
In addition to the week's fishing activities, children will see a real shark dissection performed by a marine biologist. Additionally, we will use a remote operated vehicle (ROV) to view the ocean beneath the surface! Our ROV, an underwater robot piloted from shore or boat, live streams high definition video to a computer screen that provides children a front row seat as we navigate and explore marine life below!
Lastly, we integrate a theme into our week: "Ocean foods that you didn't know you can eat!" On the final day of our program, children will have an opportunity to sample some of the more overlooked marine species native to Cape Cod. Like lobster until the 19th century, fish such as sea robin, spider crabs, sugar kelp, and sharks such as dogfish are often dismissed as "trash fish" or inedible. In our "sea to table" themed activity, we will bring our catch to a local restaurant that will prepare a sampling of these locally less popular species so children may see for themselves why these species are quite popular in Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world! Hamburgers, hot dogs and traditional menu choices are available for children with selective palates. : )
Each day is 8.5 hours long and all boat fishing days are by private charter. Our ages 8-10 program is a full, action-packed week and space is limited to ten (10) children. We maintain a 2:1 staff ratio to ensure personalized instruction for all children, and we provide a team building environment that supports and encourages all members of the group. Children will be required to bring a box lunch on each day except day four. On the final day, children will have lunch with staff at a waterfront restaurant (parents will select from three meal choices prior to their child's session). Ages 11 to 13 - Fishing
Bluefish Program (Ages 11-13)
Our "Bluefish" program, geared for kids ages 11 through 13, provides children an intense, four-day, epic summer experience. During each day of our program, children will join with their peers and develop their fishing skills in a fun, educational and supportive environment. Open to boys and girls of all experience levels, this program provides a memorable week of sportfishing as we target striped bass, bluefish, fluke, bonito and jumbo-sized black sea bass! Personalized instruction is provided to accommodate children of skill levels ranging from novice to experienced, and all of our programs strongly emphasize teamwork, encouragement and peer support.
Over the course of the week, children will also have an interactive workshop with a marine biologist, understand the science behind fish tagging and practice tagging a fish, learn to properly bait a hook, tie knots and rig gear, help haul, set and check lobster traps, receive a lesson in fish filleting, and develop a basic understanding of how fish see, smell, feed and respond to different water and tide conditions. In addition to learning new skills, children are encouraged to practice and develop patience, persistence, awareness, responsibility, safety and team building skills. On select days of our program, children may also bring home their day's catch, cleaned and filleted for dinner!
In addition to our week's fishing activities, we will use a remote operated vehicle (ROV) to explore marine life beneath the ocean surface! The ROV, a sophisticated underwater robot piloted from the safety of our boat, live streams high definition video to a computer screen that provides children a first hand view of underwater structures and marine habitats.
Additionally, on the final day of our program, we will integrate a theme into our week's activities: "Ocean foods that you didn't know you can eat!" During this activity, children will have an opportunity to sample some of the more overlooked marine species native to Cape Cod. Like lobster until the 19th century, fish such as sea robin, spider crabs, sugar kelp, and sharks such as dogfish are often dismissed as "trash fish" or inedible. In this "sea to table" themed activity, we will bring our catch to a local restaurant that will prepare a sampling of some locally less popular species so children may see for themselves why these species are quite popular in Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world! Hamburgers, hot dogs and more traditional menu items are available for children with selective palates. : )
All sessions (including locations west, such as Falmouth) will include at least one trip to the island of Monomoy where children will target keeper-sized striped bass!! Each group will have opportunities to fish aboard multiple boats during the course of the week in this epic fishing itinerary.
Our program is a full eight and a half hours per day (8:00am - 4:30pm) and all fishing days are by private charter. To provide children the best possible sportfishing experience and ample fishing opportunity, each program is limited to six (6) children. We maintain a staff ratio of no less than 3 / 1.
Healthy snacks, juices boxes and bottled water are provided and children are required to bring a box lunch on all days except the last day. Please view our Locations / Dates page for a listing of locations and dates for this program, or visit our Enroll page for rates and enrollment information.
